This 1992 Gibson Les Paul Classic is in excellent condition. This guitar shows only very minor signs of play wear throughout including some light pick scratches on the pickguard and a ding on the heel (see photos). Otherwise, this guitar is extremely clean and appears to have been well kept. This guitar is all original with the exception of the strap buttons.
This Les Paul Classic features a “1960” slim tapered neck profile with nice rounded fingerboard edges and a 1 11/16” nut width. This neck is incredible to play and just feels amazing and comfortable in the hand. The neck carve on these early Classics are quite a bit different than what Gibson calls a “slim tapered 60s profile” today and, in my opinion, this neck feels much better. The fret wire on this instrument is in excellent condition, shows only the slightest wear and is free of any dents or divots. The guitar has been professionally set up and it plays beautifully up and down the dark rosewood fingerboard with low sweet action and great intonation. The electronics in this Lester are all original, have been cleaned and are in perfect working order. All solder joints are factory and there are visible potentiometer codes that date to the 19th week of 1992. There is a date stamped in the bridge pickup cavity that reads “May, 28, 1992." Both pickups are original - a 500T in the bridge position and a 496R in the neck position. These pickups sounds phenomenal and have very distinct snarling bite that sounds incredible with an overdriven Marshall circuit!
These early 90s Les Paul Classics are super cool guitars ,in my opinion, and have some unique and well thought out features and appointments such as a deeper dish top carve, wired nickel ABR-1 bridge, an outstanding neck carve and slim peghead shape, “Les Paul Model” on the peghead, great looking inlays (instead of those later “green” colored inlays), “Classic” on the bell shaped truss rod cover, “1960” on the pickguard and a hot set of pickups. This example has such a great looking and unique top as well that’s very curly and almost birds eye looking with plenty of motion under light. If you are looking for a killer Les Paul Classic, this example delivers the goods!
