Very good condition featuring single cutaway basswood body with bound top and back body edges and Candy Apple Red finish, multi-ply tortoise shell grain pickguard, two Bareknuckle Flat 50 single coil Telecaster pickups, one volume control and one tone control with dome topped knurled metal knobs and three way pickup selector switch mounted to elongated metal control plate, Telecaster bridge with Fender, PAT PEND. and serial number stamping, three adjustable slotted steel barrel saddles, bolt on maple neck with truss rod adjustment screw located at the butt end, rosewood fingerboard with pearloid dot inlays starting at the third fret, bone nut, Telecaster peghead shape with Fender spaghetti logo and “Telecaster” logo, single butterfly string tree, six in a line Kluson style vintage tuning machines, Made In Japan printed on the neck heel, four bolt neck fastening plate, string through body construction with six individual metal string ferrules, two metal strap buttons, nickel plated metal hardware and later Fender black molded plastic hard shell case with black plush interior. This guitar weighs 8lb even.
This 1986 Fender Telecaster Custom is in very good vintage cosmetic condition and shows signs of play wear throughout including some small nicks around the body edges, a couple of small dings on the top, a less than one inch gouge in the back of the body, some pick scratches and a couple of small dings on the tip of the peghead. The pickguard is a later tortoise shell grain replacement that fits and looks fantastic! The plastic switch tip is missing in action and the original pickups have been replaced. A pair of Bareknuckle Flat 50 Telecaster pickups have been professionally installed. Both potentiometers and the three way switch are original and are in great working order. This 36 year old Telecaster has a dynamite feeling neck that has a very nice thin U shaped profile and a 1 11/16” nut width. This neck is incredibly comfortable and fun to play! This guitar was professionally refretted by a world class luthier in Nashville, Tennessee, two years ago using the same sized fret wire that originally came on this guitar from the factory and a new bone nut was also made for the instrument. This Tele has been played quite a bit since the refret and the wire shows some indentation on the first two frets, but this guitar has been professionally set up and plays like a dream up and down the fingerboard with outstanding action and great intonation. The Bareknuckle Flat 50 pickups sound absolutely righteous in all three positions and really give this instrument quite a bit more attitude. These pickups are capable of producing classic, spanky Telecaster clean tones, but will also get quite aggressive when you really attack the strings. This Telecaster is housed in a very nice Fender molded hard shell case for safe travels. If you are looking for a seriously incredible playing and sounding Telecaster, then I can’t recommend this one enough. These 80s and 90s Made in Japan Fender instruments are incredible and this one is no exception.
