This guitar weighs 7lb even.

This 1974 Gibson SG Standard is in excellent cosmetic condition showing some signs of play wear throughout including some buckle wear on the back of the body (not through the finish), a couple of very small dings on the body and a small scratch in front of the left neck pickup mounting ring screw that I have photographed. This scratch is very faint in person and looks worse in the photos (which I took VERY close up) than it does in person. Otherwise, this instrument is exceptionally clean. This SG is finished in Cherry but the top has faded a bit and the back of the guitar is more vibrant. Overall this one hasn’t faded as much as others I’ve encountered. This guitar is fully original and does not appear to be tampered with in any way. There are visible pot codes of 1377421 dating these components to the the 21st week of 1974. The solder is factory and the harness is in perfect working order. The original Gibson “tar back” pickups are present and sound tremendous. The neck profile on this SG is that of a slender taper with a 1 9/16” nut width. This neck feels very nice and comfortable in the hand. It starts out slim at the first fret and tapers larger towards the 12th fret. The original frets have been professionally dressed and show barely any visible wear. They have lots of meat on the bone and should last this guitar's new owner for a very long time to come. This guitar has been set up with .10 gauge strings and it plays outstanding up and down the fingerboard with smooth action and great intonation. Some early to mid 1970s Gibson instruments came from the factory with little plastic rings around the stop tailpiece holes (some Les Paul Deluxes had them around the pickups) which are known throughout the guitar community as “goof rings." These were removed from this guitar before it came into our possession and you can see the deep cherry finish circles (where the finish faded around the goof rings) around the stop tailpiece holes if you look closely. Overall this SG is indeed one of the finest playing and sounding all original examples from this era  that I’ve come across in a long while. Just a very stellar instrument. This guitar is housed in its original Gibson hard shell case and is ready for a new home. A gem of a guitar shipped safely and promptly from our little shop in Clarksville, Tennessee, to your front door.
