1964 Silvertone 1444 Bass Black
This 1964 Silvertone 1444 Bass is in good condition. This bass shows extensive play wear and age throughout (see photos). This old Silvertone has been played... A LOT! This instrument has buckle wear, scratches, dings, scraps, bumps, bruises and character in spades. The strings are ancient and really suit the sound of this old thing so I’ll leave it up to its next caretaker to decide if they want to install a new set. Besides the 1980s black speed knobs, this bass is original throughout. The potentiometers date to early 1964 and the electronics appear to be untampered with. The neck is straight and this Silvertone is set up with a very comfortable action. It’s easy and fun to play up and down the neck and it doesn’t buzz or fret out anywhere. The original lipstick tube pickup sounds outstanding and delivers a very nice round vintage thump when played close to the neck and has a nice articulate clear thud when played close to the bridge. This Silvertone has been dragged around and played to death for good reason - it sounds incredible! If you are looking for a very straightforward great sounding bass, this 59 year old battered thumper will serve you extremely well. This would be a top notch studio companion and a great choice for any instrument arsenal.
