1964 Gibson SG Special Polaris White
This 1964 Gibson SG Special is in excellent vintage cosmetic condition. This instrument shows signs of age and some play wear throughout including some moderate finish checking, a few small dings around the body edges and peghead, tarnishing of the nickel plated metal hardware and a small chip in the original nut (see photos). Otherwise, this instrument is exceptionally tidy, is all original throughout and has no breaks, cracks or repairs. This SG has an extremely comfortable rounded medium chunky shaped neck profile with a 1 11/16” nut width. This neck feels absolutely fantastic in the hand - it’s not a baseball bat and it’s not a slim taper like that found on the earlier models, it sits right in between in the sweet spot. The original frets show some minimal play wear and have lots of life left. This guitar plays fantastic up and down the Brazilian rosewood fingerboard with low snappy action and very good intonation. The bridge studs are straight, the neck is straight, the truss rod is fully operational and the original tuners are working smoothly. The wiring harness in this guitar is all original, working properly and the solder joints are untouched. There is a visible potentiometer code of 1376443 indicating that this component was made by CTS on the 43rd week of 1964. Both original P-90 pickups sound incredible and have a strong articulate yet woody tone. The original Polaris White finish is vibrant and shows no signs of touch up or funny business under a black light. All the plastics including the switch tip are original and are in excellent condition. The pickguard has shrunk up just a hair but remains crack free. This 1964 Polaris White SG Special is the absolute nicest example of the model that I have come across in many years and it would make an exceptional addition to any vintage instrument collection. This guitar will ship out promptly and securely from our little shop in Tennessee to your front door in a newer hard shell case that fits like a glove.
