1963 Kay Swingmaster Sunburst

Very good condition featuring single rounded cutaway, laminated maple hollow body, one unbound f-hole, black and white checkerboard binding on the top and back body edges, three "Kleenex box" single coil pickups with mirror pickup surrounds, three volume controls and three tone controls with clear plastic reflector top knobs, adjustable wooden bridge and bridge base, nickel trapeze tailpiece, four way rotary pickup selector switch with black elongated pointed knob, maple neck, bound rosewood fingerboard with pearloid block inlays starting at the third fret, bone nut, '60s era Kay peghead shape, black peghead overlay with gold screen printed Kay logo, bell shaped truss rod cover with Kay easel logo, original Grover open back Sta-Tite tuning machines, three bolt neck, one plastic strap button, sunburst finish, and modern hard shell case.

This old Kay has an excellent vibe and is fun to play. The guitar is fully playable and is set up in good order. The sunburst finish is attractive as is the checkerboard binding. The pickguard for this guitar is missing. The pickups sound fantastic (these always sound fantastic!) and deliver a smooth, fat and clean tone. The neck is chunky but flat in the center and feels very comfortable. There is some finish cracking on the front of the body under where the pickguard should be and there are some marks on the back of the guitar (see photos). Other than that, the guitar is in great cosmetic condition. This guitar is from the upper echelon of Kay's offerings from this time period and these are getting to be quite collectable. These guitars make excellent studio instruments. If you're looking for a great vintage player, don't miss out on this one.
