This 1963 Gretsch Duo-Jet model 6128 is in very good overall vintage cosmetic condition showing signs of play wear throughout including pick scratches, dings, finish checking and some binding deterioration. The neck profile on this guitar is extremely comfortable and feels great in hand with a 1 11/16" nut width. This instrument has a small flat profile at the first fret and tapers to a larger size at the 12th fret. The original fret wire on this guitar shows signs of play wear and this instrument could benefit from a fret dress or possibly a refret, but this guitar does play very good up and down the fingerboard with low action. The electronics are all original and are untouched. The Filter'Tron humbucking pickups sound superb through a clean or overdriven amp with plenty of bite and snarl in the bridge position and a round, warm articulate tone from the neck position. The interior label is missing from the electronics panel.

This Gretsch does have some of the dreaded binding rot/deterioration on the bass side forearm area and some on the treble side horn and in the cutaway as well (see photos). The neck binding is in great condition as is the rest of the binding throughout. This is a very common problem with Gretsch instruments of this period and if I could figure out a way to make it stop happening I would be a very rich man. This binding deterioration does not affect the sound or playability of this guitar and could be repaired if desired. This Duo-Jet is housed in its original hard shell case which is very tidy. A gem of a guitar shipped out safely and promptly from our little shop here in Clarksville, Tennessee, to your front door.
