This 1962 Gibson Les Paul SG is in overall excellent cosmetic vintage condition showing a few signs of play wear but nothing significant including multiple finish checks and a few small dings here and there (see photos). The neck profile on this instrument is that of a typical Gibson early 60s neck carve that is thin, wide and a bit flat in the center with a 1 11/16" nut width and it feels absolutely phenomenal in hand. This Gibson guitar has been professionally refretted with medium vintage style wire. This guitar has been played a bit since the refret, but the frets have tons of life left and it plays exceptional up and down the fingerboard.

This Les Paul has been professionally refinished in Polaris White. This work was done a very long time ago and the workmanship is top notch. The finish has aged and checked with time and looks absolutely stunning in person. Several folks have mentioned to me that it may have been Gibson work since it was done so well, but I would rather state the facts about vintage instruments and not speculate the unknown or just make an “educated” guess like lots of other sellers in this industry. That being said, I’m just going to call it a pro refin... and a really good one. There is some red pore filler bleed in the cavities, primarily in the electronics cavity (see photos) and the neck pickup cover has been off.

This guitar would have come from the factory with a side pull vibrato, but this one has been drilled for a stop tailpiece probably at the time of the refin as there are no visible holes from the old tailpiece. The ABR-1 bridge is original to this instrument and is the type that came on Les Paul SGs with vibrato tailpieces. It is not flat on the bottom but instead is like a “boat” on the bottom so that it rocks back and forth when the vibrato is used. The stop tailpiece that is installed was made by Duesenberg and is very lightweight and works well on the guitar. Personally, I much prefer the functionality and tone that comes from the stop tailpiece as opposed to the side pull vibrola (The side pull vibrola definitely looks amazing though!). This guitar has two original PAF humbucking pickups that flat out sound incredible. The pickup surrounds are also original. The bridge pickup has a hollow, woody bite and the neck position is fatter with tons of clarity. This instrument excels with an overdriven amp and is completely capable of great clean sounds as well. These pickups are extremely well balanced together. All electronics, tuners and plastic components on this guitar are fully original and the guitar is break/crack free. This Les Paul SG is housed in its original Gibson black pebble grain hard shell case (the handle has been wrapped in leather and one latch is not functional).

This guitar is ready to be played right out of the case and will surely bring its new owner years of enjoyment and inspiration. A gem of a guitar shipped out safely and promptly from our little shop here in Clarksville, Tennessee, to your front door.
