1961 Airline Town & Country
This 1961 Airline Town & Country is in good vintage cosmetic condition showing signs of play wear, age and use throughout. The original vibrato tailpiece was removed and a short trapeze style tailpiece has been installed. There is a plastic piece covering the hole from the old vibrato that is located underneath the trapeze (see photos). The neck binding has some rot and a small chunk of binding is missing at the first fret on the treble side. The rest of the binding does feel fairly solid. The tuning machines have been replaced with a set of reissue series single line Klusons with white plastic buttons and the holes from the previous tuners remain.
This Airline has a pretty chunky neck with a 1 11/16” nut width and feels very nice. The frets show some indentation but the guitar plays well with medium action that could be adjusted lower if desired. This instrument has been used for slide for a number of years by its previous owner. The original pickups have a very nice warm tone and sound perfect for anything from lo-fi rock to roots or weird hillbilly stuff. The potentiometers have a visible code of 3046145 indicating that these components were made on the 45th week of 1961 and they all are in working order. This is an extra funky guitar that could be used for a number of different sounds and that has character and vibe in spades. If you're looking for a cool, vintage utility electric guitar, then this 61 year old Valco built beauty could be for you! A gem of a guitar shipped safely and promptly from our little shop in Clarksville, Tennessee, to your front door.
