1958 Silvertone U2 Copper

Good condition featuring featuring single cutaway 13.25” wide body constructed of 3/8” thick Masonite top and back with poplar interior framing and sides, twin lipstick tube single coil pickups, one concentric volume control and one concentric tone control with knurled metal dome top knobs, three way pickup selector switch, metal top mounted bridge with adjustable rosewood saddle, clear plexi pickguard with white bottom, bolt on poplar neck, rosewood fingerboard with small dot inlays starting at the third fret, aluminum nut, bell shaped peghead with white Silvertone logo, three on a plate open back tuning machines with white plastic oval buttons, pickup height adjustable screws located on the back of the body, single ply black plastic electronics control cavity plate, two white plastic strap buttons, Copper finish and 1980s “Vantage” Japanese hard shell case.

This 1958 Silvertone U2 is in good vintage condition. This guitar shows moderate signs of play wear and there are bumps, bruises, scratches, dings and finish wear throughout (see photos). Both pots, the output jack and plate, volume and tone knobs and electronics cavity plate have been replaced. The fingerboard has been professionally refretted at some point and the case is a 1980s Vantage branded hard shell case. This 1958 U2 is hands down the coolest looking and best playing example that I have seen in quite some time. This guitar plays effortlessly, without any buzzing or fretting out up and down the fingerboard. The original lipstick tube pickups sound strong and magical especially when paired with a clean or slightly broken up amp. The original tuners operate smoothly and the original bridge is fully functional. The pots, though they are replacements from 1997, are concentric and work flawlessly without any crackle. If you are looking for a killer late 50s Dano/Silvertone to play live or use in the studio, then I highly recommend this instrument. A gem of a guitar shipped out safely and promptly from our little shop here in Clarksville, Tennessee, to your front door.
