1951 Gibson CF-100

Good condition featuring a 14 1/8” wide (LG sized) body with a single sharp Florentine cutaway, solid X braced spruce top with scalloped braces, solid mahogany back and sides, single bound top and back body edges, decorative soundhole rosette, single ply teardrop shaped tortoiseshell grain pickguard, rosewood upper belly bridge, bone saddle, set mahogany 20 fret neck, bound Brazilian rosewood fingerboard, pearloid trapezoid inlays starting at the first fret, bone nut, Gibson open book tapered peghead, black peghead face with pearl Gibson logo and decorative pearl crown inlay, Kluson Deluxe tuning machines with white plastic oval shaped tuner buttons, two strap buttons and non-original hard shell case.

This 1951 Gibson CF-100 FON 6996 is in good cosmetic condition. This instrument shows signs of use, play wear and age including some scratches, dings, pick wear and finish checking. A early 60s DeArmond soundhole pickup has been installed and there is an output jack for the pickup mounted to the treble side rim of the body. There is one side crack that has been professionally repaired and cleated. This repair is super solid and was done several years ago. There is a deep scratch on the bottom edge of the guitar beside the strap button and a strap button was installed into the heel end of the neck. It has been removed and a small hole remains. There is a chip in the binding on the back side of the cutaway. I have photographed all of these. The top on this guitar is pretty flat. There are no loose braces. The bridge has been professionally re-glued. A new bone saddle was made for the instrument and it is medium height. The neck angle is good and the truss rod is in good operational order. This instrument has a great feeling medium chunky neck profile that is nice and rounded with a 1 11/16” nut width. This neck is comfortable and easy to play. The original frets have been dressed. They are on the low side but have plenty of life left and the instrument has been professionally set up. It plays excellent up and down the fingerboard. This CF-100 has been owned and used by an exceptionally great guitar player for many years and has been well cared for, maintained and played. These CF-100s don’t pop up for sale often and are quite scarce. We have played and sold a few of these over the years, but this example is the finest sounding CF-100 that we have come across.

This CF-100 is a great player that looks and feels as good as it sounds. A standout blues instrument with its DeArmond pickup, this guitar has all the tones you need for a Lightnin’ Hopkins sound. With vibe for days, this guitar simply nails the DeArmond tones. Acoustically this guitar doesn’t disappoint either. If you are looking for classic dry Gibson small body tone, this guitar excels. As a strummer, this guitar delivers the classic Gibson thump, and as a finger picker, the guitar is quite articulate. This is also a great songwriting guitar. If you are looking for a CF-100, this example is ready to play and is extremely enjoyable all around.
