1960s Silvertone 1423 Jupiter Black Sparkle

This early 60s Silvertone Jupiter is in very good vintage cosmetic condition showing signs of play wear throughout (see photos). This instrument has been modified pretty extensively by its previous owner. The pickups are replaced with a set of Teisco single coils and the pickup “rings” were added to accommodate the pickups being smaller then the originals. There are screw holes visible in the body from the old pickguard. The plastic electronics plate covers and switch covers appear to be homemade. The volume pot is a later replacement - The caps and other 3 pots appear to be original. The 3 way switch appears to be an old Fender style with a cool old top hat switch tip. The knobs are also vintage but not original. The frets on this guitar have a little bit of wear but are overall in good shape.

This guitar does have a really nice straight neck. It plays fantastic up and down the fingerboard with a set of 10s on it. The electronics sound pretty fantastic in a very quirky way. The bridge pickup is bright and blunt without a ton of sustain and the neck pickup is warm and woody with a nice smooth low end. This guitar sounds great for any kind of lo-fi clean or dirty sounds and also works well for weirdo hillbilly stuff. The original case is a little worse for wear (see photos). This is a super fun guitar to play and it was clearly loved and “customized” by its previous owner. If you are after a cool instrument, you’ve found it.
