This 1981 Fender STRAT commonly referred to as “THE STRAT” is in very good cosmetic condition showing signs of play wear throughout including some pick wear, dings around the body edges, finish darkening and finish wear and slight tarnishing of the hardware. There are two finish checks beside the bridge (see photos). The pots have been replaced with WD branded 250K units and the switch tip is a replacement. This guitar has a 1980 serial number but has a 1981 neck date which is very typical of Fender instruments of this period. This instrument features a very nice feeling U shaped neck that is medium chunky and feels like an old glove. The original medium jumbo frets are in good shape, have been dressed and have lots of life left in them. This STRAT has just been professionally set up and plays fantastic up and down the fingerboard with low action and great intonation. The original pickups sound fantastic and have a very “Straty” tone that is perfect for funk, blues and rock. The “Hot” bridge pickup (or X1 model) sounds really great for overdriven sounds. The tremolo operates smoothly and holds tune well. There are a couple of finish checks beside the bridge but these are cosmetic and do not affect the playability or operation of the bridge in any way. These instruments are quite unique in comparison to the Stratocasters that Fender had been building in prior years - These models brought the return of the four bolt neck, the non-bullet truss rod and smaller peghead (The peghead is not quite as small as a pre-CBS era, but more midsized and with a slightly different shape). These instruments also featured brass hardware that was electroplated with 22k gold, have a slightly thicker Pat. Pend. bridge unit, and were available with three different neck profiles. Another characteristic of these STRATs is that the bodies are exceptionally heavy, and this one is no exception coming in at 10lb 8oz. This guitar is housed in its original hard shell case and comes with some original paperwork. A gem of a guitar shipped safely and promptly from our little shop in Clarksville, Tennessee, to your front door.
