Excellent condition featuring square shouldered dreadnought body shape, mahogany back and sides, solid spruce top with antique brown finish, multi-bound top edges and single bound back edges, decorative soundhole rosette, teardrop shaped single ply tortoiseshell grain pickguard, Indian rosewood bridge with white bridge pins, bone saddle, mahogany neck, rosewood fingerboard with pearloid inlays starting at the fifth fret, bone nut, square Alvarez peghead, rosewood peghead overlay with Alvarez pearl logo, three per side Alvarez tuning machines with Alvarez logo, 50th Anniversary sticker inside on the paper label, one metal strap button and original brown Alvarez hard shell case.
This 1979 Alvarez DY55 Yairi dreadnought is in overall excellent cosmetic condition and appears to have been very well cared for. It shows very few signs of play wear throughout aside from a few pickguard scratches and a couple of dings here and there (see photos). The frets show virtually no signs of use and have a lifetime of playing left in them. The neck is very comfortable with a 1 11/16 inch nut width. This guitar has been professionally set up with low action and it plays outstanding up and down the fingerboard. This Alvarez has a medium saddle height and an optimal neck angle. This guitar sounds great and has a very warm, round and projecting tone with plenty of volume. Great for fingerstyle or with a flat pick and would make an excellent songwriting companion.
These 1970s Japanese made Alvarez Yairi instruments have always been a top contender in the affordable flat top world and this one is no exception. A finely built instrument and a fine example of the model. A gem of a guitar shipped out safely and promptly from our little shop here in Clarksville, Tennessee, to your front door.
