1970s Memphis TV-100S LP Special Cherry Red MIJ

This quirky late 1970s Memphis TV-100s is in good vintage condition. This guitar shows signs of play wear and age throughout including some small scratches and dings on the body, some pick scratches, some wear on the bridge pickup cover, one cracked speed knob (still holding on!) and the tuners have been changed to set of aged nickel Grover Rotomatics. There are extra screw holes visible from the original tuners (see photos). Otherwise, this Memphis is in good shape. These Memphis guitars are a little hard to date - the sticker that the serial numbers were printed on is missing and the potentiometers show no code so late 1970s is the best and closest that I can nail down on this one! This example does feature a unique peghead shape that I haven’t found on most of the other models and, in my opinion, it looks cooler than the others. This guitar came to us with one bad tone pot and we replaced it with a new one. The rest of the electronics are original. This guitar has a good feeling medium chunky neck profile with a 1 11/16” nut width. The original frets are in good shape - they show a little wear, but have plenty of “meat on the bone.” This guitar has been set up here in our shop and it plays very well up and down the rosewood fingerboard with comfortable action and good intonation. The two dog ear “P-90s” in this guitar sound very good and have a nice woody growl. After closer inspection of these pickups, I can say that these are not your typical P-90s at all and appear to be more of just a single coil pickup in a P-90 cover...a  sheep in wolf's clothing! However, they do have a very unique and interesting tone that really sounds pretty incredible with a Big Muff flavored fuzz pedal! This would make a pretty killer doom/stoner machine or a great instrument for raunchy garage rock or “Jumper on the Line” style blues. I personally really dig these old Made in Japan Memphis guitars and this example is one of the coolest that we have run across in a good while. This guitar weighs 8lb even, is housed in its original chipboard case with yellow plush interior and will ship out promptly and securely from our little shop here in Tennessee to your front door!
