Very good condition featuring 15 watts of power, one 12 inch Jensen P12Q speaker, 5Y3, 6V6, 6SN7, and 6SJ7 tubes, three instrument inputs, one microphone input, tremolo control with slow, medium and fast speeds, volume, instruments and microphone controls with oxblood colored 'chicken head' knobs, green jewel light, leather handle, gold and brown grill cloth with brown plastic 'LP' plate, two tone brown covering with gold piping and original wooden wedge style footswitch.
This 1953 Gibson GA-40 amp is in very good vintage cosmetic condition showing some scuffs on the Tolex here and there. The gold plastic Gibson logo on the front of the amp is missing the 'Gibs' and instead now reads 'on' (see photos). This amp is in perfect operating order and sounds fantastic with a very warm, woody sounding clean tone that quickly becomes overdriven when the volume is increased. A perfect grab and go amp for a jazz gig and a great little studio companion. This amp was restored by Gregg Hopkins of Vintage-Amp restoration on 8-8-2006 and there is a Victoria luggage tag inside the amp from this company. It appears that the amp was professionally recovered with the brown two tone Tolex and that it was serviced at that time by the company with various new caps and a three prong power cable. The transformers are original and the Jensen P12Q speaker has a date code of 220336 indicating the 36th week of 1953. This GA-40 includes it original wooden wedge style footswitch that operates the tremolo. The tremolo functions perfectly on all three settings and sounds fantastic! A gem of an amp shipped out safely and promptly from our little shop here in Clarksville, Tennessee, to your front door.
