Excellent condition featuring asymmetrical double cutaway contoured mahogany body, two P-90 pickups with black plastic covers, two volume controls and two tone controls with black reflector top knobs, three way pickup selector switch with white tip and black plastic Rhythm and Treble selector ring, multi-ply black and white small pickguard, wraparound “lightning bolt” compensated tailpiece, mahogany neck, bound rosewood fingerboard with pearloid dot inlays starting at the third fret, bone nut, Gibson open book peghead, black peghead face with gold Gibson logo, multi-ply black and white bell shaped truss rod cover, three per side Kluson tuning machines with black keystone buttons, single ply black plastic electronics control cavity cover plate, two metal strap buttons, Pelham Blue finish and original brown Gibson hard shell case. This guitar weighs 6lb 13oz.
This 2019 Gibson SG Special is in overall excellent cosmetic condition showing extremely minimal signs of play wear throughout and just a few small pick scratches on the pickguard. The neck profile is that of a wide and flat early 1960s carve but still has a nice bit of chunkiness to it. It feels terrific in hand. This instrument has been professionally set up and plays fantastic up and down the fingerboard. The P-90 pickups sound great and are capable of delivering classic Gibson P-90 tones. The neck pickup sounds full and punchy and really cleans up nicely. The bridge pickup has great honk and can get downright raunchy. The wraparound stud tailpiece with does its job very well and keeps this guitar's intonation relatively spot on. The tuning machines have been swapped out for a set of black Kluson tuners and the original nut was replaced with a new bone nut. There are some signs of finish wear where the original nut was removed but nothing serious (see photos). Gibson SG Specials have always been straightforward rock machines and this one is no exception. Plus it’s Pelham blue and that’s just plain cool, right?
