From the publisher: Tone. It's the subject that gear-obsessed guitarists discuss more than any other - and now the Tone Manual is the first book to take seriously this hallowed concept.
Dave Hunter breaks down the individual components of the electric guitar setup - guitar, amplifier, speakers, cabinet, effects and peripherals - and examines how each contributes to superior or inferior sound. He offers tips to improve and make the most of the gear you've already got, and all with reference to interviews with artists and manufacturers. In addition, the Tone Manual discusses the evolution of the guitarist's concept of "good tone." The book provides a guide to recorded examples of playing generally considered to be tonally superior, and a series of Tone Tips offer quick and digestible practical bites of info to help you improve your sound and better understand the way your gear works to produce great tone.
The Tone Manual is complete with a special CD that features 72 sound samples covering a broad range of guitar tones, from a '64 Strat through a 1958 Fender Pro Amp to a modern Koll Superior played through a Matchless Spitfire. Armed with this unrivaled book-and-CD package, you'll have all the information you need to get to the hear of your own great guitar tone.
